Sulfur is a vital element for plant nutrition, even more critical than phosphorus in some cases. Its plant-available form, sulfate (SO₄²⁻), requires proper oxidation, best achieved when applied with organic matter. Due to limited rainfall and widespread calcareous soils in Iran, sulfur application is the most economical and effective soil acidification method.
